‘ROUND DERBYSHIRE CHALLENGE’

The ‘Round Derbyshire’ Challenge: 21-30th September 2018

Three friends from Shelton Striders Running Club are planning to run around the boundary of Derbyshire in September 2018.

Having run the 100-mile length of our wonderful county in 2015, and it’s 50-mile width in 2016, Harry Sloan, Dave Thornton and Andy Brooks will be attempting to run around the entire county this year in aid of their club charity, the Padley Group (www.padleygroup.com) which helps vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Derby and Derbyshire).

It is also a celebration of their coming of age, with Harry having just turned 70, Dave reaching 21 for the third time (63) and Andy notching up the half century.

Their combined aged of 183 is somewhat shorter than the run though, which is estimated to be around 262 miles of, at times, quite challenging terrain.

They plan is to set out from The Dragon pub (www.thedragonatwillington.co.uk) Willington on Friday 21st September and head in a clockwise direction around the county, using the nearest right of way to the boundary, without ever straying over it. The aim is to average just over a marathon a day, which should see them arrive back at The Dragon pub in Willington 10 days later on Sunday 30th September.

As well as raising funds for the Padley Group, they are also keen to raise awareness of the mental and physical benefits of getting out for a run in beautiful surroundings. Running is something they passionately believe can work wonders for an individual’s self-esteem, sense of worth and general wellbeing.  With this in mind they are keen for runners/joggers of all abilities to join them along the way for a few miles and a chat.

If you would like to donate towards Dave, Andy and Harry’s amazing efforts and to help those most in need in Derbyshire you can do so on their JustGiving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/roundderbyshirechallenge
